Antique gilt spelter metal statue of Columbus holding a furled flag, likely made as a mantel clock topper statue or just a manteltop statue.
The statue dates from the late 1800's- early 1900's and depicts Columbus - or a similar European explorer - wearing an armored breastplate over puffy sleeves and leggings with a puffy hat on his head. He's holding a flagpole with a furled banner. It's mounted to a round black wood base with a brass metal strip that once held the ID plate, which is missing.
It stands 12" tall on a 5" diameter round base, and good weighs 2.25 lbs. It's in very good vintage condition with no cracks; the very tip of the flag probably had a finial at one time which is now missing; also the statue is a little loose on its wood plinth.
A fine antique Columbus statue for your mantel clock or display shelf, just in time for Columbus Day,
