Rowlf the Dog was Jim Henson's first character to appear on national television, working as Jimmy Dean's good sidekick on The Jimmy Dean Show from 1963-66. He appeared in multiple television commercials and specials before landing a regular role on The Muppet Show from 1976-81. Voiced by Henson himself, Rowlf was known on The Muppet Show for playing the piano and starring as Dr Bob in the recurring sketch Veterinarian's Hospital. He possesses a sincerity and down-to-earth self-confidence that is unique among his Muppet colleagues—many have written that Rowlf's personality was the truest extension of Henson's own approach to people and work.
Sigma released a limited collection of mugs featuring the sculpted likenesses of Rowlf, Kermit, Miss Piggy, and Fozzie after the success of The Muppet Show. They were sold in elite department stores as collectibles. This is a vintage item picked up in an internet auction. Upon inspection, this mug appears to be in PRISTINE CONDITION; the best I've seen (comparable only to two other mugs sold on this site).
3-1/3" tall, 5-1/2" long from nose to handle.
