Art Nouveau bust good of Sappho classical sculpture. Home decor figural art statue of ancient Greek poetess of love. Enchanting depiction of the archaic Greek poet Sapho (Sappho) from the island of Lesbos c.630-570 BC. After the original sculpture by Emmanuel Villanis (French 1858-1914). Sappho was a famous ancient Greek lyric poetess. The Alexandrians included her in the list of nine lyric poets. Little is known for certain about her life. The bulk of her poetry, which was well-known and greatly admired through much of antiquity, has been lost, but her immense reputation has endured through surviving fragments. The piece is in great condition, there is a black mark on the lower left side that I think can be removed, I did not try to myself. The left corner of base also has a chip and a knick a couple inches to the right of it, but I didn't notice until inspected as eyes tend to be on the beauty of the sculpture above it. Measures 9" across, 16” tall with a base 4” X 3 ¾”.
