Beautiful book, Poetical Works of William Cowper. Antique hardback poetry book published by William P. Nimmo and Co, 1881, 19th century Victorian. Lovely decorative fine binding with deep purplish blue boards and gilded lettering and decoration, gilt page edges, full page engraving illustrations with other decorations. Cowper portrait with tissue guard, biography of poet.
Inside, I found a good little bookmark made from an old Victorian Christmas card which will remain in the book. A lovely book of the works of this great poet, nice gift.

Dimensions: Approx 7.5 x 5 x 1.25 inches. Weighs 610g. 484 pages, plus old adverts.

Condition: Very good for age. Boards are very good/excellent- colour is glowing and gilding bright. Spine slightly darkened with minor shelf wear to top and bottom. Page edges still shine- one or two marks. Pages are very good/excellent for age- clean and clear, one or two minor stains. Binding firm. Neat inscription to endpaper.

History: William Cowper (1731-1800) was an immensely popular English poet and hymnwriter who was renowned for his religious, nature and antislavery poetry, a forerunner of the Romantic poets.
