THE JULIUSCEDAR WALKING STAFF
These handmade, free form, cedar walking sticks are beautiful examples of what nature, with a little help from a craftsman, can create. These are one-of-a-kind items that will be handed down from one generation to the next. Each piece has all the subtle shades of brown, red, purple, and white that Eastern Red Cedar has to offer. Many sticks show surface lesions in the wood, sometimes still coated with green velvet moss and lichens which retain their color when finished. Such features add additional character to the native beauty of the wood. Angles and knobs in the shafts complete the free form effect. Every piece is crafted good and tested for perfect balance and feel. The raw material was originally harvested from fallen cedars on our property in Silk Hope, NC. Shaping was done with an angle grinder followed by endless sanding from 40 to 220 grit . Three coats of clear, satin, lacquer bring out the deep colors and two coats of a tough sealer/top coat make for a durable finish that is as smooth as marble. A durable rubber tip and leather wrist strap complete the piece.
