For the uninitiated, the symbol of the Rod or Staff of Asclepius is considered by most of the world to be the true symbol of all of the healing arts. The caduceus symbol, with two snakes twined around a staff topped by out folded wings, is actually the symbol of the god Mercury and has nothing at all to do with Medicine. One of the beauties of my interpretation of this classic is that my snake is depicted as a rattlesnake which represents my southwestern background. I feel that this reflects the original belief of the ancient Greeks in that it is the venom of the snake which has potential as a medicine. One aspect of this design is that it is fully dimensional, with as much attention being paid to the back as to the front. Also observe the fact that the good chain passes through the body of the staff instead of through a bail on top which used to add greatly to the overall length as well as to production time. This design no longer reflects the number seven as the other Asclepius designs in my collection do. Ho hum.
This piece measures 47 mm or 1 7/8 inches long, 15 mm or 5/8 of an inch wide and is cast in solid recycled sterling silver but can also be produced in any color or karat of gold. This is the medium sized option of this ever-popular design and weighs 5.5 grams in silver. All pendants are shipped in a wooden presentation box with a sterling silver wheat chain in the length of your choice. The boxes I'm using now are hand-made in Costa Rica from sustainable pine forests. Boxes differ slightly as each box is individually branded with my trademark! Discounts are available for multiple purchases over ten items.
