Sleeping Beauty Turquoise good Heishi, Jet and Spiny Oyster Necklace with Vintage Turquoise, Mother of Pearl , Jet and Coral Petroglyph Charm
I live in the desert southwest, a land where Indigenous people have flourished for eons. Their stories are revealed in different ways throughout the area. Pit houses, cliff dwellings, mud brick structures, pottery shards, tools, petroglyphs, pictographs... Evidence of early life here is everywhere, even in the air. It is in the spirit of these ancients that I made this piece, using materials they used, either through mining around here or trade from the southern hemisphere.
The gorgeous vintage, inlaid "rock critter" (as noted on the back) depicts typical rock art from around the area. One client noted when buying a necklace with a similar charm, its arms thrown up like this one, that she had to buy it because it represented her feelings of this last year of Covid! I wonder what this little guy was responding to?
