Antique Petit Point Needlepoint Aubusson Tapestry Embroidery,
Raised Girl with Deer, Circa 1830
This skillfully hand embroidered petit point Aubusson needlepoint top dates from 1830's or earlier and was done by an accomplished needlewoman. There is no canvas used as a foundation, and the stitches are worked with wool thread at 11 to 12 stitches per inch. A young girl and her pet deer on a red leash relax in a country setting. Victorian era or perhaps even Georgian. The colors and condition are all muted. Remember, women were not well accepted in the tradition arts of painting and sculpture, so these needlework treasures represent the early manifestations of women's creativity and artistry..
Group this fine old 1830s figural needlework textile can be framed with others and can be used as a wall hanging art in your rustic home decor for a fabulous wall display.
CONDITION: The condition of the needlework canvas is fair. I believe the satin cloth that the embroidery is on is not original, nor its muslin backing. It is hand stitched around the perimeter to attach, an easy removal. The threads are dry in places and have torn in places. This wonderful needlepoint is ready for any project to conserve it.
MEASUREMENTS: The finished needlework on satin and muslin backing measures 25" x 21-1/4".
