***Appearance of the fleece***

Most of these Hebridean fleeces are in a single piece, but do have some gaps.

Sheared by hand, by professional shearer to reduce the stress to the sheep. Very few second cuts.

The fleece is rich in natural lanolin and feels wonderfully soft to the touch.

Weight of the fleece is approximately 1lb 6oz, ideal for a home crafter.

The fleece is from a Black sheep, and the tips of the wool have been lightly bleached by the sun. Some are bleached to grey and some are bleached to a warm caramel brown color.

***Why choose the Hebridean fleece?***

A very fine fleece

Warm versatile fleece

Suitable for many crafts

Sheep that thrive in a cooler climate

***Why choose our fleeces?***
We farm sheep in a way that is respectful to them and the environment. By purchasing your fleece from us you can be sure that the sheep have been looked after in accordance with the highest welfare standards.

***How we Shear our Sheep***
Our sheep are all sheared by hand, on our family farm by a professional shearer, to minimise the stress to the animal. Shearing is a very important process that helps good the sheep by removing last year's wool growth and ensuring that the sheep does not get too hot which can lead to iIllness.
Our sheep are raised year round on organic Orkney pasture, which encourages growth of a thick warm fleece with a longer staple length.
Hebridean Sheep are native to the UK and thrive in this remote northerly environment.

We always shear our sheep at the optimum point for them, when the fleece has started to "rise" or naturally separate from the sheep. Every sheep we have is shorn here on our own family farm by a professional shearer to minimise stress to the animal.
Shearing is a very important process and critical to animal welfare, this is because if last year's wool growth is not removed, the sheep can get too hot which can lead to illness.
Our sheep are raised year round on natural Orkney pasture, which encourages growth of a thick warm fleece with a longer staple length.
