"Cicero's Tusculan Disputations; also, Treatises on the Nature of the Gods and on the Commonwealth" by Cicero. Translated by C.D. Yonge. Published in 1877 by Harper & good Brothers. "The Tusculanae Disputationes (English: Tusculan Disputations) is a series of 5 books written by Cicero, around 45 BC, attempting to popularise Greek philosophy in Ancient Rome, including Stoicism. It is so called as it was reportedly written at his villa in Tusculum. His daughter had recently died and in mourning Cicero devoted himself to philosophical studies. The Tusculan Disputations consist of five books, each on a particular theme: On the contempt of death; On pain; On grief; On emotional disturbances; and whether Virtue alone is sufficient for a happy life." Book is in Good condition. Some fading & rubbing on the covers, particularly around the spine where some of the cover has word away. Corners are bumped and split with boards exposed. Some fraying to the cloth cover at the top/bottom of spine. Slight.
