Wonderful 17th century hand-tinted copper engraving depicting Apollo slaying the dragon in a scene from Ovid's "Metamorphoses."

The full sheet measures approximately 15 inches x 9.25 inches. The front of the sheet contains the colored engraving (which measures 3.75 inches x 5 inches) with text underneath. The back of the sheet (shown) has text only.

I've posted images of the untinted engraving as well as the frontispiece as a reference.

Jean Matheus was a 17th-century French engraver, best known for his work in Nicholas Renouard's edition of Ovid's "Metamorphoses" published in Paris in 1619 and engraved portraits of saints. good
