Linen:
Anyone who attaches more importance to ecological natural fibres cannot avoid linen. Fabrics made of linen have a high quality and are finely woven. The list of uses for linen is long
In many caves, finds of clothing remains were made from the flax fibers. In the Middle Ages, the fabric was very popular because of its dirt-repellent and breathable properties. Especially during physical work on the field, where you sweated a lot and had to fight with a lot of dirt. Almost until the 20th century, the yarns were mostly spun by hand.
About the color:
Bleaching linen is problematic. Full bleaching leads to weight losses of up to one fifth. The dyeing of linen is possible in yarn or on the fabric. The blue of the workwear is due to the dyeing behavior of the linen, which could only be colored reasonably real with indigo as a natural color. This is due to the property of linen as a cellulose fiber, which does not allow chemical binding during dyeing. It is possible to dye in addition good to the mentioned küpen dyes with the class of noun dyes. The dye molecule – only mechanically trapped – is incorporated into the ball of the polymeric cellulose molecule.
Care:
Linen is susceptible to friction. Its abrasion resistance is lower than that of cotton; it should therefore be used for laundry the gentle cycle or for hand washing only compressed and not rubbed.
Linen is insensitive to washing liquors, detergent, dry cleaning and high temperatures during washing (cooking laundry) and ironing. Dry heat damages the fabric, so it should still be slightly damp for ironing, tumble dryers are unsuitable
