TITLE: Winter Watch

About the Art: This is an early winter view across the tallgrass prairie at a stand of cottonwood trees growing in a low spot. It is based on a walk I took at the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve in the heart of the Flint Hills in Kansas. The 10 good prints differ slightly with my manipulation of the inking of the far hills during the printmaking process. This offer is for the sixth in the edition. Each print passed through the press seven times with 10 colors of inks used.

DIMENSIONS: The linocut printed image size is 11.25 inches tall by 15.5 inches wide. The linocut is printed on 15 by 19 inch printmaking paper.

You are purchasing an original print, one of only 10 in a limited edition. This is not a reproduction print. The framed images are for your reference only. I am not offering framing. Contact me if you are interested in having a print matted to fit a 16x20 frame.

Reduction printing is a type of relief print used to create multi-color prints. After printing each color, more of the print surface, in this case a lino block, is carved away, thereby reducing the area that can be printed with the next color. Once the carving for the second color has started, there is no going back to extend the print run as the first printed state cannot be duplicated. At the end of the process there is little left of the print block.
