Product code: Antique Northwood Memphis Punch Bowl Base good | Electric Amethyst Carnival Glass | Iridescent Glassware

good A flawless antique Northwood Glass Co. Memphis pattern punch bowl base in electric amethyst. The base is marked on the underside in the middle with Northwood's underlined "N" inside a circle. The base is for a punch bowl (punch bowl not included). It can be turned upside down and used as a vase. The rainbow of iridescent color is amazing to behold. This is authentic and original carnival glass, which is much different from iridescent glassware made from the 1920s on.*

The base is in near-pristine condition. The original carnival coating is entirely intact, with no signs of wear, flaking, or chips. The base itself is in pristine condition.

Dimensions: 6"W x 5"H. Weight: 2 lbs.

* Original carnival glass (manufactured from about 1907 to the mid 1920s) was hand sprayed with chemicals before the product was put back into a furnace for a second time. As a result, every piece had a slightly different pattern to the iridescent sheen. Beginning in the 1920s, new automated systems sprayed only one coat of chemicals. Machines sprayed the chemicals in the same pattern for each item. If you look at iridescent glass made from about 1920 on, you'll notice that each piece in a series has the exact same sheen and pattern.
