good Beautiful Hand Painted, ANTIQUE FRENCH FASHION PLATE, in Purple, Red, Black and White made in 1862.

This Antique hand-tinted vision in shades of purple, burgundy, black , gold and pale aqua is a French Fashion Plate dating from 1862 (the date is printed on the right bottom) and is a window into fashion history. An actual page from one of the earliest fashion magazines, 'La Mode Illustree' , featuring 'Toilettes de Mme. Vignon Chauvin'. It measures roughly 10.5 " by 15 ".

This beautiful print was bought at auction in Paris, it shows its age, but I think it adds to its charm and certainly to its authenticity. There is is some water damage at the upper edge (see photograph) and there is a faint trace across the middle where, at some point, the print was folded. I have framed others others of this type and find that the paper adheres well to a modern backing (which also serves to stabilize the ancient paper) and that the crease becomes virtually invisible behind glass.
