This map is laser-engraved on birch plywood that has been hand-finished with shellac, providing a gentle sheen and showing off the natural color and grain of the wood. The engraving is stained so that the fine detail of the map is clearly visible and easily read. The map is set in a solid oak frame, hand-finished with shellac, that is wired on the backside for hanging. The map itself is 18" x 22," and with the good frame it measures roughly 20" x 24.' The map and frame are 100% made in our shop in Nacogdoches, Texas.
An informational note about the park is engraved on the backside of the map, as follows:
"Established by the U.S. Congress in 1915, Rocky Mountain National Park comprises 414.78 square miles of mountains, alpine lakes, wooded forests, and mountain tundra. The stunning mountain landscape includes 77 peaks over 12,000 feet high, with Long's Peak as the highest at 14,259 feet high. The park's Trail Ridge Road, built in 1932, is one of Colorado's most famous scenic drives, winding through the mountains for 48 miles from the park's east side to the west. The magnificent views include not only the mountain landscape, but also wildlife, including moose, elk, and bighorn sheep. Rocky Mountain National Park also has as many as 48 buildings or sites within the park that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places, including the remains of an old mining town, buildings constructed by the Depression-era Civilian Conservation Corps, and sites of old ranches that are now part of the park. With an impressive 355 miles of trails that lead to lakes, waterfalls, fields of wildflowers, and rugged peaks, Rocky Mountain National Park is known as one of the best places in the country for hiking."
