Green Heron Hunting is the title of this 36" silk square.
The fabric is 100% silk Crepe de Chine, the hem is neat with good corners, and the printing is excellent. The image is vivid on the front, and a bit less vibrant on the reverse of the cloth due to the natural process.
Protecting wildlife is at the heart of this artwork. "Butorides Virescens" is the species name of the green heron, whose hunting abilities are remarkable. This would be a good gift for birders and naturalists.
The art is an exact reproduction of a linocut I made in 2018 as a featured artist for San Francisco Center for good the Book annual "RoadWorks" event. The linocut is inked, the fine paper placed on top, and then a coal-fired vintage Buffalo Springfield steamroller is driven across to make the print. I decided to create a scarf from the print, and this is the result. Extending a weave of branches and adding bright jewel tones forms the border motif.
