good Very uncommon and peacefully evocative black lacquer box with inlaid mother of pearl birds, dragonflies, mantis, reeds & water--look inside there are two trays, one is 4 1/8" x 3 1/8" and the other 2.5" x 1.5"...additionally there is a brass insert that is 3" across and 7/8" deep.
I don't know if it is meant for writing or smoking supplies, cosmetics or jewelry. It's gorgeous.
Overall it is 11" x 5.25" x 2.25", there are several scuffs in the paint along the edges, please see photos, also a couple of areas of long, thin lacquer loss and a couple of minor dings. I think it is a thing of beauty and character all the better for its battles.
