Rare Victorian good Antique Large 3 Pound James Keiller Dundee Marmalade Pot | Giant Vintage Advertising Crock | Collectable White Ironstone Jar
A nice chippy and weathered example of the rare extra large three pound antique advertising pot for James Keiller Dundee Marmalade, with a fabulous worn patina.
These 3 pound versions of the James Keiller Dundee Marmalade advertising crocks are increasingly hard to find, and are highly desired amongst collectors. That's because they look great and are a fantastic large size which makes them perfect for use around the home, as well as on display. They are very useful as kitchen storage jars and look beautiful used as vases.
These pots were produced by Maling of Newcastle at the end of the nineteenth Century and early part of the twentieth Century. They were intended to be throwaway items and were often discarded with rubbish.
This example has come from an old Victorian dump and therefore has suffered a small amount of damage. Considering its history, though, this is quite minimal. It has suffered a couple of knocks on its base, one resulting good in a chip and the other in a crack to the rim. However, the pot is very stable and there is no other damage.
There is also crazing all over the pot, which has discoloured in varying shades across the pot. However, the transfer logo remains clear and visible.
Overall, though, this pot is a lovely example with the perfect patina for those who like an aged and weathered look in their collectable ironstone pieces.
