This highly attractive hot water jug or pitcher was made by the famous company of E. Brain & Co. in the 1920's, under the trade name of Foley China. The design was first registered in 1923 and was in production until 1930. The jug is mainly Canary Yellow in colour, typical of the Art Deco period, a white handle with a black line detail and a border at the top in grey and white with dancing figures in black silhouette. This is known as the Dancing Silhouette pattern. The removable lid is made from silver plate and flips open when liquid is poured out. To prevent further cooling, the lid has a counterbalance weighted knob which closes the lid. The circular stand is of similar pattern and both pieces have the maker's name, Pattern Number, 271 and registered number stamped underneath.
The good jug measures 16cm ( 6 1/4in ) in height and the stand is 13cm ( 5in ) diameter. They are in excellent condition with no chips or cracks.
