Tea Room good Tumblers Soda Fountain 5.25” Glasses Set 2, Antique Indiana Glass Uranium Green Depression Glass Art Deco,1920s,Unique & Rare
For your consideration to purchase is a rare and unique antique 1920s Green Uranium Depression Glass Set of two 5.25” Tumbler s Soda Fountain Glasses. This Art Deco set of glasses have a smooth flared top opening, with a thumb print pattern leading to three geometric layers, and an octagonal footed base. They were made by the Indiana Glass Company of Dunkirk, Indiana. In 1923 Indiana was the first company to produce machine made “Depression Glass” and it created the most characteristic patterns. From 1926-1931 Indiana Glass produced the “Classic Art Deco” pattern #600 “Tea Room”. It emphasized the symmetrical geometric form and hard angular shapes so iconic to the Art Deco style. The Indiana Company marketed “Tea Room” glassware to soda fountains and department store tea rooms so popular in the 1920s. The Company offered many different size tumblers, glasses, sherbets, sundae ice cream dishes, creamer & sugars, luncheon plates, serving trays & bowls, and vases for center pieces. The Indiana Co. never produced sets of dinnerware in the “Tea Room” pattern. It was made in colors of green, pink, clear, and some amber. Green was most popular then and now. Green Uranium glass is a greenish yellow color until you place it under a black light and then it becomes a radiant psychedelic green. Green Uranium glass was literally made with uranium to add brilliance to green/yellow glass until 1943 when it was needed for WWII.
When the “Tea Room” good pattern was retired in 1931 no more was ever produced or reproduced, making it extremely rare and hard to find.
