CRYSTAL PERFUME BOTTLE - British spherical bottle cut crystal perfume good bottle with sterling silver mushroom topper from Birmingham from 1913
British spherical cut crystal perfume bottle with smooth sterling silver mushroom topper from Birmingham from 1913 by Samuel M. Levi.
The silver topper displays a couple marks but the neck displays four marks. They indicate the following:
Sterling silver .925
Made in Birmingham
Made in 1913
S.M.L. stamps indicates that the bottle was manufactured by the silversmith Samuel M. Levi.
The body of the bottle is faceted on the base and over the hobnail ring. A decorative frieze with engraved and acid etched flowers and leaves decorates the upper section of the bottle right below a circular ring under the silver neck.
A small crystal faceted stopper sits underneath the silver topper. It was used to dab perfume behind one's ears and prevented perfume from evaporating. There is a minute ding on one if its edges and the base shows several dings under the base. It was understandably prone to be dropped at one point or another.
The crystal body is in wonderful condition. The smooth mushroom topper has a couple small round dings on the silver topper, one more pronounced than the other and very faint linear crease. Regardless, the bottle is a beautiful example of Edwardian design.
The bottle is 4.5" tall and its diameter is 3 3/8".
